Four-year baseball letterman; one of the best lefthanders ever to pitch for L&C; best season was his junior year when he posted an 8-3 record on a team that finished 9-21; he accounted for all 7 Northwest Conference wins that year, including a doubleheader sweep against Pacific to end the season in which he went the distance in both games; as a junior, he had an ERA of 1.12 in 92 innings, gave up only 22 runs, and struck out 113; he was selected to play on the U.S. team in the 1954 Pan American Games in Mexico City.
