After suffering a “career-ending” injury at another school as a freshman, Wackwitz went on to have quite the career as a Pioneer. She earned NAIA All-American honors her senior season and led Lewis & Clark to a second-place finish at the 1991 NWC Swimming Championship Meet-their best mark since winning it in 1979. During the course of the meet, Wackwitz earned gold medals in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard relay. She set the program record at the time in all three of those races and still sits sixth all-time in the Pioneers record books in the 100- yard breaststroke and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Wackwitz was just as accomplished in her academic pursuits. She earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete Academic All-America honors and the Lewis & Clark President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in both her junior and senior years. As a senior, she won the prestigious L&C Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
