As a four-year letter winner in baseball, Wright handled most of the Pioneer’s pitching. In 1948, he pitched 14 flawless innings in a doubleheader against Puget Sound, earning two victories. That same season, Wright helped lead the team to the Northwest Conference Champion title. His junior year, he was credited with all three L&C wins despite a season-long elbow injury, and put up a .364 batting average. In 1950, his senior year, Wright pitched 11 games, earning four wins and was named to the All-Conference team. (Inducted posthumously)
