Roofener was a four-year letter winner in both football and baseball. During his football career on Palatine Hill, he was named First-Team All-Conference three consecutive years. Roofener, a starter, led the team in tackles and tackles for loss in 1994 and was second on the team in tackles and first in tackles for loss in 1995. He consistently led the team as a defensive linebacker. As a junior on the baseball team, Roofener led the team in home runs with nine and maintained a 100 percent fielding percentage. As a senior, he was third in runs scored per game, homers per game, and doubles per game. He ultimately tied for tenth on the all-time list for career home runs with 16.
