Carla McHattie was the first Lewis & Clark women’s cross country runner to win a conference championship as an individual. As the 2005 champion, Carla was named Northwest Conference Women’s Athlete of the Year and All-NWC First-Team. That same season, the team was second at the NWC Championships, their highest finish since 1978. She had seven top-ten finishes in 2005, winning four events while also setting a course and meet record at two separate races. She was an All-West Region winner in 2004.

As a track and field competitor, she set school records in the 800 and 1,500 meters, the former still standing today. She ranked in the top 20 in the 400-meter hurdles, 5K, heptathlon and was part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team. During her senior season, she won three individual NWC Championships event titles.
