Hall of Fame
Dell Smith first started working as a professor on Palatine Hill in 1967 and has proven to be a consistent advocate for athletics and Lewis & Clark over the last six decades. During his 30 years working for the college, he held roles as a: Professor, Department Chair, Assistant Dean of the Faculty, Head of the Natural Sciences Division, Dean of the Health & Physical Education Department, Director of Summer School and Registrar.  Smith also spent time as a coach of the football, wrestling, swimming and tennis teams and taught squash, tennis and gymnastics classes. He served on the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee for many years and worked as the announcer for both the men's and women's basketball teams. Dell is still a staple at football games and may own the record for most games attended for Lewis & Clark men's and women's basketball. Each year, the Dell Smith Scholar-Athlete Award is given out to the top male scholar-athlete at the annual Excellence in Lewis & Clark Year in Sports (ELCYS) awards ceremony. Â
