Lewis & Clark College

A four-year letter winner in football and baseball, and a one-year member of the wrestling team, Held was the Northwest Conference Champion in the 178-pound weight class. He was a First-Team All-NWC selection and a District 2 Honorable Mention Award of Merit his junior year in football while making the First-Team All-NWC team in baseball both his junior and senior years. He also earned a spot on the NWC Honorable Mention Team in baseball his sophomore year. He co-captained both the football and baseball teams during his senior year. In baseball, he finished with a 4-3 record in 1959 after pitching 46.5 innings for a 3.33 ERA and striking out 48 batters during the year.
