The Pioneers finished the season with an 8-3 record, with losses only to the University of Oregon and Oregon State. During the season, four school records were set. At the Northwest Conference Championships, the ‘56 team avenged a close loss in the 1955 meet to Whitman with a convincing 15-point win over the Missionaries. It was L&C’s balance and depth that proved decisive as they scored in 13 of 15 events. Ultimately, these Pioneers were named NAIA District 2 Champions, where they put up seven NAIA District 2 individual champions and set three meet records. The district meet was a tremendous display of power as the Pioneers nearly tripled the score of the second-place team.
