Buddy Forgey Kramer, whose formal name is Castanewf’s Boilermaker Buddy, was born on July 17, 2006, and at the age of ten weeks joined the family of Pete Forgey and Katherine Kramer.
Buddy has been synonymous with Lewis & Clark since 2008 when the current Pioneers logos debuted, which include a Newfoundland dog. The breed accompanied Meriweather Lewis and William Clark on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Buddy has been highly involved on campus over the last ten years including leading the football team onto the field at each home game as well as other Pioneers sporting and non-athletic events. His two favorite events being the annual Pio Fair and Homecoming.
After earning his NCA Water Dog title and Canadian Water Rescue Dog title as well as becoming a therapy dog, he has spent time visiting a senior citizen retirement community, bringing smiles and laughter to many people with whom he visited.
Buddy has been featured in The Oregonian and The Columbian newspapers and Newftides, the official magazine of the Newfoundland Club of America. Buddy also appeared in the episode about the Pioneers’ football team on AM Northwest.
