EUGENE, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College outdoor track & field traveled to historic Hayward Field on Friday and Saturday to compete at the University of Oregon Preview.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis & Clark posted six top-12 times in program history across the two days and sophomore
Madeleine Boyle won the women's 5,00M B event. The Pioneers faced off against a strong field of NCAA DI, DII and DIII competition in their first meet of Spring Break.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Boyle was the first Pioneer to compete this weekend and posted the team's lone victory. She finished first in a field of 20 runners in the 5,000M B event. Boyle crossed the line with a huge PR time of 17:49.54. She shaved off 33.46 seconds off her career PR and finished 4.10 seconds ahead of the second-place runner from NCAA DII Central Washington University. Her time would have put her in 15
th out of 17 runners in the 5,000M A event.
Senior
Riley Buese and junior
Malia Heien were the only other women's student-athletes to compete on Friday. Buese finished 35
th out of 61 in the 1,5000M. She turned in a PR time of 4:40.54 to move from fifth-place to fourth all-time in program history. Buese improved her PR by 0.41 seconds. Heien came across in 49
th place with a time of 4:46.55.
Junior
Elsie Chin added a top-10 mark in program history in the 400M Hurdles. Chin placed fourth out of 16 runners with a PR time of 1:06.08. She shaved off 0.81 off her PR to move from fifth to third all-time in program history. Sophomore
Carolyn Mayberry placed 16
th with a time of 1:13.88.
Heien finished top-10 in the 800M. She placed seventh out of 34 competitors when she crossed the line in 2:15.16.
Sophomore
Callow Soto posted a time of 1:01.78 to finish 28
th out of 34 runners in the 400M.
In their final race of the meet, Lewis & Clark's 4x400M Relay Team finished fourth out of eight teams. The quartet of Chin, junior
Miriam Reside, Soto and Heien registered a time of 4:05.42.
MEN'S RECAP
The men's team added three top-12 marks in program history and saw all seven entrants finish in the top-11 of their events.
Sophomore
Harrison Fung posted a top-10 mark in program history in the 400M Hurdles. He registered a third-place finish out of 17 competitors. He notched a PR time of 54.72 to improve his PR time by 2.20 seconds.
Sophomore
Quinn Higgins led three Pioneers runners in the 5,000M B race. Higgins finished sixth out of 17 runners with a PR time of 14:56.41. He improved his PR by 3.32 seconds and moved from 12
th place all-time into a tie for 11
th with fellow sophomore

Peter Ford (15:07.00) came across in 10
th and 11
th places.
Sophomore
Emil Miller became the first runner in school history to compete in the 2,000M Steeplechase. In an event that typically is 3,000 meters long, Miller finished ninth out of 10 runners with a time of 6:35.93.
Sophomore
Keegan Zaso earned the ninth and final spot in the triple jump finals. He finished in ninth place after he leaped 13.47M (44-02.50 Feet) on his fifth jump of the day.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400M Relay Team finished eighth out of 11 teams. Junior

Noah Nelson and Fung combined for a time of 3:26.62.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Boyle moved from 12th to sixth place in program history in the 5K. She has raced the 5,000M twice this outdoor season and won the event both times.
- Fung moved up from 21st in program history to seventh all-time in the 400M Hurdles.
- Chin sits just 2.17 seconds behind Emily Thompson's (2014) program record time of 1:03.91 in the 400M Hurdles.
WHAT'S NEXT
Lewis & Clark will compete in two meets next weekend. A small group will travel to California for the Stanford Invitational on Friday night. The rest of the team will compete at Linfield University's Jenn Boyman Memorial Invite on Saturday.
