PORTLAND, Ore. – Women's basketball won their regular season home opener on Friday in the opening day of the Bon Appetit tournament, beating the Whittier Poets 73-43.
After a Sluggish start by Lewis & Clark and a halftime lead of 30-26 for Whittier, the Pioneers came out playing solid defense in the second half and found their offensive stride. The Pioneers outscored Whittier 47-13 in the second half and went on a 20-3 run in the first eight minutes to help put the game out of reach.
Megan Spence scored a game high 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Christina Herring added ten points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Sara Villanueva scored ten points and Tayler Wang scored eight points coming off the bench for the Pioneers. Neva Hauser and Kristina Williams both had nine points in the game as well.
The Poets were led by Kourtney Zilbert who scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Monica Salazar pitched in seven points while Brittany Aranda and Alex Coon added six points apiece.
Whittier plays Puget Sound on Saturday at 6pm in Pamplin Sports Center while Lewis & Clark plays Oglethorpe University at 8pm in the second day of the Bon Appetit Tournament.
