Women's Basketball Tested by Conference Leader Linfield

Kaitlen Carns connected on four treys, paced Lewis & Clark with 12 points

PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball battled the Northwest Conference's top team Saturday afternoon but fell 76-42 to Linfield University at Pamplin Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Sophomore Kaitlen Carns paced the River Otters with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior Lauryn Frederickson added 11 points and collected a team-high five rebounds, converting all three of her free-throw attempts. Fellow junior Divinity Singleton contributed seven points and three rebounds.
 
Carns tied the game at 3-all less than 30 seconds in, and the River Otters took their only lead, 5-3, on a Frederickson pull-up jumper at the 8:59 mark. Lewis & Clark stayed within striking distance early, trailing 9-7 after first-year Lilly Jordan grabbed an offensive rebound and scored at 6:55.
 
Linfield then pulled away, closing the first quarter on a 9-2 run to take an 18-9 lead.
 
The Wildcats held Lewis & Clark to seven points in the second quarter and carried a 37-16 advantage into halftime.
 
After the break, the River Otters posted their best offensive quarter of the night, scoring 16 points in the third. Carns knocked down two three-pointers, and senior Tatiana Rebanal added another. First-year Ky Roussin converted an and-one at the 4:15 mark, but Linfield extended its lead to 63-32 after three quarters.
 
Lewis & Clark turned in its strongest defensive effort in the final period, holding Linfield to 13 points. The River Otters forced five of the Wildcats' 15 turnovers, including three steals.
