Box Score PORTLAND, Ore.—Despite a hot start and a balanced offensive attack, Lewis & Clark College women's basketball fell 70-56 to visiting Colorado College on Monday afternoon at Pamplin Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seven different Pioneers finished with five points as Lewis & Clark tied their season-high for points at home this season.
Senior
Jamison Richards led the Pioneers with 12 points. Richards hit four of Lewis & Clark's five made 3-pointers on the day (4-10) and added five rebounds, four assists (team-high) and three steals (team-high).
Freshman
Kaela Guidry posted nine points on 4-9 shootings and added four rebounds. Seniors
Karli Mukai and
Charlotte Carroll each finished with eight points apiece. Mukai chipped in three assists and Carroll led the team with nine rebounds.
Colorado College Honorable Mention All-American Zoe Tomlinson led all scorers with 18 points and tacked on nine rebounds. Kayla Mackel (15), Audrey Bayston (13) and Rose Koehler (11) all finished in double-figures for the visitors.
Lewis & Clark got off to their best start of the season to open the contest. The Pioneers raced out to a 9-0 lead in the opening 3:23 - before the Tigers were forced to take a timeout. Freshman Lauryn Fredrickson stole the ball away and raced down the floor for a fastbreak layup on the opening possession. After forcing another turnover, Richards pulled down an offensive rebound and hit a 3-pointer to make it 5-0. Carroll and Mukai added baskets on the next two possessions to give the Pioneers points on each of their first four trips down the floor and a 9-0 advantage.
Colorado College would put their starters back in after the timeout and immediately began their comeback. The visitors ripped off seven-straight points before senior
Natalie Elstone grabbed a defensive board and went all the way down the floor before hitting a layup.
Tomlinson tied the game at 11 with 2:56 to go in the quarter. Lewis & Clark responded with one final basket, as Guidry hit a layup off a Richards feed to give the Pioneers a 13-11 edge after one quarter of play.
Lewis & Clark would start the second quarter off strong. Richards drained a 3-pointer and to make it 16-11 and sophomore
Emily Newton connected from deep to push the lead back to 21-17.
Colorado College would take the lead for good thanks to a 9-0 run. Tomlinson hit back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 21 and then Koehler scored five points in a row to give the visitors a 26-21 lead with 3:58 to go in the halftime. Carroll would stem the tide with a layup, but the Tigers rattled off seven more points before halftime, to take their largest lead of the game to that point at 33-23.
After falling behind by 12 points on the opening possession of the third quarter, Lewis & Clark worked their way back into the game and cut the deficit to six points or less on three occasions. The Pioneers used an 11-4 run to get back within five (39-34) with Carroll, Frederickson, Elstone, Mukai and Richards (3-pointer) all scoring during the run.
Later in the quarter, Lewis & Clark got back within six (49-43), only for Bayston to hit a 3-pointer and a jumper in the final 72 seconds of the stanza to make it 54-43 Colorado College after three quarters of play.
The Tigers stretched their advantage to as many as 19 in the fourth but the Pioneers closed the game on a 5-0 run with Mukai and Richards (3-pointer) knocking down shots.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Richards four made 3-pointers were the most made threes by a Pioneer this season. Their four made 3-pointers were their most since hitting five threes as a sophomore against Linfield and Multnomah.
- Lewis & Clark turned 18 Colorado College turnovers into a 15-11 edge in points off turnovers.
- Monday's meeting was the first between the two programs since November 22, 2021, when the Pioneers defeated Colorado College 71-69. Lewis & Clark leads the series 3-2 since the 2011-12 season.
- Frederickson and Elstone each finished with six points apiece for Lewis & Clark.

Lewis & Clark will travel to California for the UC Santa Cruz December Classic on December 21 and 22. The Pioneers will take on Coe College (December 21) and Hamilton College (December 22).
