Pioneers defeat Tigers for third consecutive home win

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers hosted the Colorado College Tigers Monday night at Pamplin Sports Center, winning 71-69. The narrow win came after the Tigers tied the game with 18 seconds left on the clock off a three-pointer from Audrey Bayston. The Pioneers got the ball to Charlotte Carroll on the next possession, who found the basket on a layup to nudge Lewis & Clark back into the lead. The clock ran out before the Tigers could follow through on their final possession.

The Pioneers held the lead for most of the game, pulling away from the Tigers by the second half of the first quarter. Colorado saw a big momentum shift late in the third which brought them back from a 20-point deficit, but Carroll's key basket kept them from the win. Jamison Richards and Carroll both put up 17 points each, while Gabby Beltran had nine rebounds and four assists.

Lewis & Clark shot 40 percent in field goals and made 39 rebounds to Colorado's 40. The Pioneers had 19 points off of turnovers and 17 second-chance points. The bench contributed 16 points.

"I thought we saw an incredible team in Colorado, very talented and well-coached." said Head coach Ann Dorris, "Tonight was a great game and a big team win for us. We've got to keep working to put four periods together, but overall I'm proud of our defense, especially in the first half, and our persistent fight all game. We had some huge performances by Carroll and Richards, some key plays from our bench, and great composure and leadership down the stretch."
