Box Score TACOMA, Wash. -- Leading 48-47 with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers allowed 16 unanswered points into the early fourth period to lose 75-56 to the Puget Sound Loggers on Saturday evening at Memorial Fieldhouse.
Ayisat Afolabi scored the go-ahead basket late in the third quarter on her way to a team-high 14 points for the Pios, her fourth double-digit performance in five games this season. Natalie Kelly scored 13 points and Miyah Leith had 10 to give the Pioneers three double figure scorers.
Emily Sheldon led the game with 24 points for Puget Sound, followed by 18 from Samone Jackson and 11 from Elizabeth Prewitt.
After falling behind 15-6 midway through the first quarter, the Pios rallied back to get within four points at the end of the period. Leith's 3-pointer with a few seconds remaining made it 17-13.
The second quarter went similarly, with Puget Sound pulling away on back-to-back layups by Jackson and a jumper by Mikaela Limper. The Pioneers used 3-pointers by Kelly and Sara Hogman in the final 3:16 to cut down the Loggers lead to 32-30 at halftime.
Lewis & Clark held its largest lead of the game in the middle of the third quarter, 44-41, when Kaitlin Mathewson scored a layup, her only basket of the game.
The Pios play sooner than the normal Friday-Saturday schedule with a Tuesday game at Linfield at 6 p.m., which will be the second of four straight road games for Lewis & Clark.
