Late Rally Falls Short as Women’s Basketball Drops 69-66 at Pacific

Lauryn Frederickson scored 26, Tatiana Rebanal added season-high eight off the bench.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's basketball fell to Pacific University 69-66 in a back-and-forth Northwest Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Stoller Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Junior Lauryn Frederickson led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting. She connected on 4-of-10 from three-point range, grabbed five rebounds and added three steals.
 
First-year Hailey Perez scored 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting, while senior Tatiana Rebanal provided a season-high eight points off the bench on 3-of-4 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Rebanal also recorded two assists and two steals.
 
Sophomore Kaitlen Carns added seven points, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She dished out two assists and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Lewis & Clark took early control, jumping out to a 9-4 lead after Frederickson hit a three-pointer and junior DJ Kendrick made the second of two free throws with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. Pacific answered with a 14-4 run to close the period and take an 18-13 lead after one.
 
After trailing 21-15 three minutes into the second quarter, the River Otters chipped away and tied the game at 24-24 with just under four minutes remaining. Rebanal sparked the comeback with her second three-pointer of the game, and Carns knocked down all four of her free throws during the stretch. Frederickson capped a 10-5 run with a layup at the 1:23 mark to give Lewis & Clark a 34-29 advantage. Pacific closed the half with two free throws in the final 12 seconds to cut the deficit to 34-31.
 
Pacific regained momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Lewis & Clark 22-13 to take a 53-47 lead into the final period. The Boxers briefly built a nine-point lead late in the quarter, but Perez knocked down a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to trim the margin to six.
 
Lewis & Clark battled back in the fourth after Pacific pushed its lead to 60-51 with 7:30 remaining. Frederickson cut the deficit to three with a three-pointer at the 4:52 mark, and the Otts stayed within two possessions into the final minute. Frederickson converted two free throws with 22 seconds left to make it 66-65, but Pacific went 3-for-4 at the line down the stretch to secure the win. Perez was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.9 seconds remaining and made one of three free throws to account for the final score.

  • Lewis & Clark committed only two turnovers in the first half and converted Pacific's 10 first-half turnovers into 11 points.
  • Frederickson scored 14 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers.
