FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Sophomore Sarah Anderson knocked down a career-high 21 points off the bench for the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team, leading the Pioneers to a 66-57 Northwest Conference win at Pacific University.
The Pioneers improve to 12-10 on the season and 7-6 in conference action. The Boxers slip to 7-15 overall and 3-11 in NWC play.
Anderson made all 21 of her game-high points from long distance, finishing the night an amazing 7-of-8 from three-point range. Senior Katie Anderson also had a solid night for the Pioneers, scoring 17 points and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds, while dishing out a game-high six assists. Freshman Ayisat Afolabi netted 11 points in her first conference start, while Reese DeHart scored 10 points off the bench for Lewis & Clark.
Olivia Cook led the Boxers with 18 points, while Srah Curl and Alex Pfefferle each scored 10.
It took both teams nearly three and a half minutes to score, but it was the Pioneers who struck first on a layup by Anderson, the Pios senior guard. The Pios other Anderson, the sophomore guard, earned the Pios a 12-3 advantage with 12:08 on the clock with her first three pointer.
The Boxers finally pulled themselves back into the contest with 2:59 remaining until halftime, tying the game for the first time at 21 all. The two sides exchanged baskets throughout the remainder of the half, but the Pios took a slim 28-27 lead into the locker room.
K. Anderson kick started the second half the same way as the first with a quick layup, followed shortly after with a free-throw. Lewis & Clark earned its largest lead of the contest on back-to-back Afolabi free-throws with a little over five minutes left in the game. The Pios led by double-digits the rest of the way until Pfefferle hit a three with one second left, making it a 66-57 game.
Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at George Fox.
