PORTLAND, Ore. - After defeating Puget Sound earlier in the season the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team could not hold off the Loggers on Saturday night, falling 75-71 after a late rally by the visitors in Northwest Conference action. 

The loss drops the Pioneers to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play. The Loggers improve to 13-6 on the season and 6-4 in the NWC. The loss puts the Pioneers one game back of the Loggers in the NWC standings and just one place out of a play-off berth. 

Tayler Wang was the Pioneers leading scorer with 17 points, making 6-of-8 from the free-throw line and 5-of-9 from the floor. Wang also led the Pioneers with a game-high seven rebounds and three assists. Casey Zinn knocked down 15 points for the Pios, sinking all five of her free-throw attempts, while finishing 2-of-3 from behind the arc. Ayisat Afolabi came off the bench to score 13 for L&C. 

Amanda Forshay scored a game-high 22 points for the Loggers, while Erin Stumbaugh scored 16 off the bench. 

The Loggers hit the first basket of the game, but the Pioneers rebounded with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to take the lead. Lewis & Clark would maintain that lead throughout the half, taking a 10 points lead with 7:26 on the clock courtesy of a Zinn three.

Puget Sound would cut the deficit minutes later, but Lewis & Clark would once again take a 10 point advantage. The advantage came from two Wang free-throws with seconds left on the clock. The baskets would be the last of the half.

Kathlene Howe earned the Pioneers their largest lead of the game on a layup at the start of the second period. The Loggers kept the pressure on the Pioneers, tying the contest at 52-52 with 12:58 on the clock. The two teams battled the rest of the way, keeping the score very close.

With a little under a minute to play, Zinn drained her second three to make it a 73-71 game in the Loggers favor. Puget Sound hit two-free throws to close out the game.  

Lewis & Clark returns to action on Friday, Feb. 7 against Linfield in the Pamplin Sports Center. Gametime is set for 6 p.m.
