McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Women's soccer
travelled to face the Linfield Wildcats (6-2, 4-0 NWC) on Sunday.
The Wildcats showed off their top ranked offense scoring three
times in the second half to beat the Pioneers 3-0.
In the first half, Lewis & Clark (2-4-2, 0-4
NWC) played solid defense against Linfield's top ranked NWC
offense. At the half the game was tied 0-0 and Pioneer goalkeeper
Shayna Lentz
had racked up seven saves on the day. The Wildcats had some good
opportunities in the first 64 minutes of the game but could not
find the back of the net.
Then in the 65th minute Emily Fellows put Linfield on the board.
A cross by Sara Blake set up a header by Fellows that found its way
past Lentz. Just over a minute later Anna Sours made it 2-0 in
favor of Linfield. Sours took a hard shot on goal that was denied
by Lentz. Sours then followed her shot and scored in the left
corner of the net.
In the 81st minute Rennika Doty added a third goal for Linfield
putting the game out of reach for the Pioneers.
Wildcat goalkeeper Kelsey Hasselblad had two saves allowing no
Pioneer goals while Lentz had nine saves on the day. Linfield
outshot Lewis & Clark 28-5 and Fellows led the Wildcats taking
an impressive 11 shots. Natalie Levy led the
Pioneers taking two shots, one on goal.
Lewis & Clark women's soccer starts off a full day of
homecoming games at 10:00am on Saturday Oct. 2nd against Pacific
University. The soccer game is followed by football at 1:45pm and
Volleyball at 7:00pm.
