ATHERTON, Calif. – The Lewis & Clark
women's basketball team hit the road for the Menlo Winter
Classic on Sunday afternoon, falling to Chapman University on day
one of the tournament 70-68. Junior Megan Spence nearly ended the
game with a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down a
team-high seven rebounds.
The Pioneers had a solid first half, taking a 37-32 lead into
the locker room, finishing 14-24 (.583) from the floor. Chapman got
the better of the second half, outscoring the Pios just enough to
earn a slim two point victory.
Sophomore Kristina Williams finished with a team-high 15 points,
shooting 5-6 from the charity stripe. Defensively, Williams came up
with a game-high seven steals, her highest of the season. Senior
Christina Herring ended the game with 14 points and seven assists,
while sophomore Sara Villanueva chipped in 13 points. Neva Hauser
finished 4-7 from the floor to contribute 10 points to the Pio
offense, while pulling down five rebounds.
The Pios return to the court for game two of the classic on
Monday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. when they take on Occidental College.
