PORTLAND, Ore. - The women's soccer team went
up against the Puget Sound Loggers (13-1, 10-1 NWC) on
Saturday. The Logger who were ranked 20th in the nation before the
game were held to one goal by the Pioneer defense. One goal would
be enough however as the game ended in a 1-0 loss for Lewis &
Clark (2-10-3, 0-10-1 NWC).
The one and only goal in the game was scored early in the first
half. With less than five minutes off of the clock, Kelly
Andersen played a through ball to Mikaela Freeman who found
herself wide open in the middle of the field beating Pioneer
goalkeeper Elise
Delgado. The Pioneer offense could not seem to find any
chances in the first half taking only one shot against a very tough
Logger team. The Loggers were relentless on offense taking ten
shots.
The second half was controlled by UPS as they took another 11
shots. Delgado had a good day in net however, saving nine
shots in the game. The Pioneer offense had a couple chances in the
second half but Lewis & Clark could not get the shots that they
needed to force the game to overtime.
Puget Sound goalkeeper Casey Thayer would pick up a win saving
one shot while Freeman led the Loggers with four shots and
three shots on goal. The Pioneers were led by Emilia Emmetti
with one shot, that shot being on goal. Puget Sound outshot Lewis
& Clark 21-3 and 10-1 on goal.
The Pioneers play again tomorrow October 24 at Griswold
Stadium against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes at noon.
