SALEM, Ore. - Women's soccer finished in a
2-2 tie in two overtimes against Willamette University on Sunday.
Freshmen Emilia Emmetti and
Natalie Levy
scored for Lewis & Clark (2-9-3, 0-9-1 NWC), while Alex Batzer
and Stephanie Skelly scored for Willamette (6-8-1, 5-5-1 NWC).
The game started out quickly with both offenses scoring early in
the first half. The first goal came off the foot of Batzer on a
tap-in after a long pass from Megan Moore. Five and a half minutes
later the Pioneers answered back on a perfectly placed corner kick
by Emmetti that found the back of the net just inside the right
post. The tie would not last long as the Bearcats scored 30 seconds
later. Skelly took a shot from 8 yards out that beat goalkeeper Elise Delgado.
Assisting on the play was Batzer. The Pioneers battled back scoring
in the 17th minute on a 15 yard shot from Levy on an assist from
Cat Kitts. The score at the half was tied at 2-2.
The second half was controlled by Willamette but the bearcats
could not score a goal on Delgado. Delgado recorded eight saves
while playing the entire game. The game went into double overtime
but neither team could catch a break as the game ended in a tie.
Willamette took 20 shots in the game, including 12 shots on goal.
The Pioneers had 10 shots and four shots on goal.
The Pioneers take the field again on Saturday the 23rd against
the Puget Sound Loggers at Griswold Stadium. The game starts at
1pm.
