JT Chavez Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

Chavez recorded the most tackles-for-loss by a Pioneer in a single-game since the 2011 season

PORTLAND, Ore.—For the second-straight week, Lewis & Clark College football had a player selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, the website announced Tuesday morning.Ā
Ā
Junior defensive end JT Chavez was recognized for the first time in his career on Tuesday, after putting together a huge performance in the team's 21-3 road win over defending Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champions Pomona-Pitzer. Last week, junior linebacker Charlie Murrin was honored after the team's 38-10 win over George Fox University.Ā
Ā
Chavez led Lewis & Clark's defense and posted new career-highs in solo tackles, total tackles, tackles-for-loss and sacks in the win over Pomona-Pitzer. The Stockton, California native racked up six solo tackles, eight total stops, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks to lead the defensive unit. Chavez's 4.5 tackles-for-loss are the most by a Pioneer since Louis Baltazar ('11) posted 4.5 against Linfield University on November 12, 2011.Ā
Ā
In the team's first three games this season, Chavez has posted a team-high 6.5 tackles-for-loss and four sacks and sits third on the team with his 13 total stops. He ranks 14thĀ in NCAA DIII in sacks and 15thĀ in tackles-for-loss.Ā
Ā
As a team, Lewis & Clark allowed their fewest points in a game on Saturday since the 2010 season. The Pioneers shutout Pacific University 48-0 on October 2, 2010 to earn a massive win on Homecoming and the program's first shutout since the 1997 season. The defense racked up seven sacks and 11 tackles-for-loss against the Sagehens. Both totals were the most by a Lewis & Clark defense since October 6, 2018 against the University of Puget Sound.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark will be off this weekend, before opening Northwest Conference play, when they host the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, October 4 at 1 p.m.Ā
