PORTLAND, Ore.—For the first time in his collegiate career, Lewis & Clark College football junior
Charlie Murrin was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday morning.
Murrin earned one of the 11 spots on the defensive side of the ball, after making several huge plays in Lewis & Clark's 38-10 win over George Fox University on Saturday. Murrin is the first Pioneer to carve out a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week since assistant coach
Devon Guest was recognized on October 22, 2024. The last time a Lewis & Clark defensive player was honored was October 3, 2023 – when
Daryl Scott picked up the award after a big interception in overtime against George Fox.
Murrin put together the biggest game of his career in the win over the Bruins. He posted five tackles (two solo), the first two fumble recoveries of his collegiate career, a career-high 1.5 tackles-for-loss and two pass break-ups.
He closed out the first half by scooping up a George Fox fumble and nearly taking it back to the end zone on the final play of the half. The junior linebacker tacked on a second fumble recovery late in the third quarter, when senior
Jack Warren stripped the ball away from the Bruins quarterback and Murrin pounced on it for Lewis & Clark's third fumble recovery of the game.
As a team, Lewis & Clark forced three turnovers and held George Fox to an 0-4 mark on fourth down. The Pioneers defense held the Bruins to 278 total yards and just 83 yards on 29 carries (2.86 per carry).
Through two games, Murrin is tied for first on the team with two pass break-ups, tied for second with eight tackles and sits third with 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
Lewis & Clark will aim for their first 3-0 start since 2011 on Saturday, when they travel to take on reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m.
