Football Earns First National Votes in D3football.com Poll Since 2011

The Pioneers are receiving votes in the D3football.com Poll for the second time in program history

PORTLAND, Ore.—For only the second time in the history of the D3football.com Top-25 Poll, Lewis & Clark College football is receiving votes in the website's national poll.Ā

After a 2-0 start to the season, the Pioneers earned two votes in Sunday's National Poll. Lewis & Clark is one of 45 teams to earn at least one vote in this week's poll.Ā

The Pioneers earned two votes in the National Poll for the first time since October 30, 2011. Football also picked up two votes that week, as the team improved to 7-0 with a 34-32 road win over Pacific Lutheran University. The D3football.com Poll originated in 2003.Ā

This year's team is off to a hot start after blowout wins over the University of Puget Sound (56-20) and George Fox University (38-10). The Pioneers offense and defense both rank as some of the top units in all of NCAA DIII.Ā

On offense, Lewis & Clark sits 16thĀ in points per game (47.0), 11thĀ in total offense (584.5 yards per game), 11thin first downs (54), 12thĀ in passing efficiency (198.03), 13thĀ in third down completion percentage (58.3%), 17thin passing offense (327.5 yards per) and 23rdĀ in completion percentage (70.8%).Ā

The Pioneers defense sits 52ndĀ in the nation in points per game allowed (15.0), tied for first in fourth-down conversion rate percentage (0%, 0-5), 12thĀ in fumbles recovered (three), 25thĀ in rushing defense (47.5 yards per game), 51stĀ in turnovers gained (four) and 59thĀ in team sacks per (2.5 sacks per game).Ā

Sophomore quarterback Dashiell Weaver is tied for second in DIII with his nine passing touchdowns through week two. He also ranks 10thĀ in passing efficiency (205.6), 12thĀ in passing yards (627), 21stĀ in completion percentage (71.7%) and 39thĀ in completions per game (21.5). In his first two games, he's thrown for nine touchdowns in just 6+ quarters and has added 87 rushing yards.Ā

Senior running back Jordan Lahusky sits 84thĀ in the country with his 130.0 all-purpose yards per game and first year Sytyn Lasconia ranks 12thĀ with his three receiving touchdowns. On defense, junior Charlie Murrin is tied for third with two fumble recoveries and JT Chavez is tied for 46thĀ with two sacks.Ā

Lewis & Clark will aim for their first 3-0 start since 2011 on Saturday, when they travel to take on reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m.Ā Ā Ā
