PORTLAND, Ore.—Senior
Riley Buese (5K) and the 4x400M Relay each posted victories, to lead Lewis & Clark College women's track & field at the L&C Larry Byerly Invite on Friday and Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In their final regular-season meet of the year, the Pioneers posted seven top-50 performances in program history and seven top-six finishes at their second home meet of the year. The event also marked Lewis & Clark College's Senior Day Meet.
At the conclusion of the meet, Lewis & Clark track & field honored their 11 graduating student-athletes:

Buese claimed the Pioneers first win of the weekend in the 5,000M. She dominated the 32-woman field with a season-best time of 16:51.56. Buese finished 27.03 seconds ahead of the second-place competitor from NAIA Southern Oregon University and edged the second NCAA DIII runner by over three minutes. First year
Talia Tomhave placed 21
st overall with a time of 20:04.09. Junior
Ali Kerschner closed in 21:22.67 to finish in 29
thplace.
The Pioneers closed the meet by finishing first out of nine teams in the 4x400M Relay. The quartet of
Elsie Chin,
Miriam Reside,
Callow Soto and
Malia Heien ran the third-fastest time in program history to easily beat the field. Heien, who ran the anchor leg, crossed the line in 4:00.04 to beat NCAA D1 Seattle University's relay team by 3.02 seconds.
In the first relay of the day, Soto,
Carolyn Mayberry, Robinson and Reside combined for a time of 52.59 to finish in sixth place.
Heien led seven Lewis & Clark runners in the 800M. The junior placed third out of 52 runners and was the first collegiate athlete to cross the finish line. She posted a season-best time of 2:13.58 to move into 33
rd in NCAA DIII this season. Reside came across in second on the team with a time of 2:28.13. Sophomore
Nadia Cota (2:30.10) and
Mackenzie Olver (2:32.21) finished 28
th and 31
st. Sophomore
Melissa Zurla and first year
Maeva Conroy finished back-to-back in 35
th and 36
th. Zurla posted a season-best time of 2:34.50 and Conroy registered a PR time of 2:35.00. Sophomore
DJ Kendrick made her collegiate track & field debut with a time of 2:44.21 to place 45
th overall.
Boyle added the Pioneers final top-three finish. The junior, who is graduating a year early, placed third out of 33 runners in the 1,500M. Boyle ran a PR time of 4:39.93 to move into third all-time in program history in the event. Martin closed in 5:33.08 to finish 27
th.
Sophomore
Divinity Singleton and junior
Reilyn Sabado led the team's throwers with both posting sixth-place showings.
Singleton led a quartet of throwers in the shot put. She placed sixth out of 34 with a PR heave of 11.45M (37-06.75 Feet). Her throw moved her into a tie for ninth all-time in program history. Junior
Nia Pile came in 14
th in the event with a throw of 10.22M (33-06.50 Feet). McCoy Harmon notched a mark of 10.11M (33-02.00 Feet) to finish 17
th. Junior Michèe Brika launched the implement 9.07M (29-09.25 Feet) to place 28
th.
On Friday, Sabado finished sixth out of 20 in the javelin throw. She posted a throw of 32.85M (107-09 Feet). McCoy Harmon came in second on the team and 11
th overall when she hurled the implement 30.11M (98-09 Feet). Junior
Anli Davis recorded a mark of 16.75M (55-00 Feet) to place 20
th overall.
Sophomore
Lillian Besa led five Lewis & Clark throwers in the discus. Besa took 11
th place when she uncorked a throw of 33.43M (109-08 Feet). McCoy Harmon placed second on the team and 19
th overall with a heave of 32.16M (105-06 Feet). Singleton posted a mark of 29.71M (97-05 Feet) to finish 24
th overall. Sabado came in 29
th place with a heave of 28.65M (94-00 Feet). Brika posted a PR of 23.06M (75-08 Feet) to place 40
th. Her throw moved her into 38
th in program history.
Singleton also took first on the team in the hammer throw. She recorded a mark of 36.36M (119-02 Feet) to finish 20
th out of 36 competitors. McCoy Harmon took 32
nd overall with a throw of 28.04M (92-00 Feet).
Davis was the Pioneers lone jumper to compete over the weekend. She took 12
th out of 21 in the lone jump with a leap of 4.61M (15-01.50 Feet). With her PR jump, she moved into 42
nd place in program history.
Chin led the team's sprinters on Saturday. She finished 13
th out of 46 in the 200M with a PR mark of 26.57. Soto came in just behind her with a PR time of 26.84. Mayberry added a PR of her own, when she crossed the line in 29.60 to finish 41
st. Junior
AJ Schroeder took 45
th place with a time of 31.63.
Schroeder was the lone Pioneer entered in the 400M. She finished the race in 1:11.11 to take 18
th place.
Robinson placed first on the team in the 100M. She closed in 13.43 to finish 24
th out of 41 runners. Sophomore
Faith Kyser came in 37
th with a time of 14.12.
Mayberry was the Pioneers only competitor in the 100M Hurdles. She finished 15
th with a season-best time of 17.69.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Buese's time in the 5K moved her into 14th in NCAA DIII this year. She is the only runner in program history to break 17 minutes in the 5K and has now accomplished the feat three times.
- The 4x400M Relay team moved up to #38 in NCAA DIII this season. With their time of 4:00.04, they moved from fifth to third all-time in school history.
- Heien's 800M time was the second-fastest of her career and second-fastest in program history. Her mark of 2:13.58 was just 0.27 seconds of her program record time (2:13.31).
- Boyle moved into 68th-place in NCAA DIII this year in the 1,500M with her PR time.
- Chin (13th in program history) and Soto (15th) both posted top-15 times in program history in the 200M.
WHO'S NEXT
Lewis & Clark will host the 2025 Northwest Conference Championship on Saturday and Sunday. The meet will start at 10 a.m. on both days.
