Women's Track & Field Places Five On Academic All-District Team

Four Pioneers were repeat honorees and sophomore Rose Dinh was recognized for the first time

GREENWOOD, Ind.—For the second-straight year, five Lewis & Clark College women's cross country and track & field student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024-25 Academic All-District Team, the CSC announced on Tuesday morning.

Senior Riley Buese, juniors Piper McCoy Harmon, Malia Heien and Elsie Chin were all repeat honorees. Sophomore Rose Dinh earned her first career Academic All-District honors.Ā

The Academic All-District Teams recognize the top student-athletes for their performance on-and-off the field. To be eligible, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must be ranked in the top-50 in the region in at least one individual event across the three seasons (cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field). Schools could only nominate a maximum of five student-athletes on both the men's and women's teams.

Buese is a recent graduate with a degree in Biology from Denver, Colorado. The most-decorated All-American (8x) in school history, put together the best season of her career as a senior. She earned All-American honors in all three seasons for the second-consecutive campaign. In the fall, she finished 17thĀ overall at Nationals in cross country (21:27.0), to tie the program record and her own best finish at Nationals. She finished third in the 5,000M (16:42.08) and eighth in the 3,000M (9:40.06) at Indoor Track & Field Nationals. She closed out her career in the Spring by placing second in the 10,000M (34:20.14) and third in the 5K (16:30.64) at Outdoor Nationals. For the year, Buese finished first in the West Region in four events and second, third and fourth in one event each.Ā

Chin is a Biology major hailing from Portland, Oregon. The junior recorded the best season of her career as the top sprinter on the team. She notched seven marks that put her in the top-50 in the West Region across Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. During the winter season, Chin posted the 20thĀ fastest time in the West in the 400M (1:02.49), 48th-best mark in the 60M Hurdles (11.58) and was a member of the 14th-fastest 4x400M Relay Team (4:38.10). She added the sixth-fastest time in the region in the 400M Hurdles (1:04.06) and 21st-fastest time in the 400M (58.93) during the Outdoor season. Chin was also a member of the 4x400M Relay (3:58.35) and 4x100M Relay (51.32) that ranked eighth and 25thĀ in the region.Ā

Dinh is a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major from Portland, Maine. The sophomore earns her first career Academic All-District honors after finishing in the top-50 of the West Region in three events. She finished 40thĀ in the West Region during Indoor season when she leapt 4.49M (14-8.75 Feet) in the Long Jump. Dinh added a pair of top-50 marks during the Spring. The sophomore posted the 31st-best jump in the region in the Long Jump (5.10M/16-8.75 Feet) and was a member of the 4x100M Relay Team (51.32).Ā

Heien is a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major hailing from Denver, Colorado. The junior racked up seven top-50 marks in the region during her junior campaign, including earning All-Region accolades in cross country and outdoor track & field. Heien finished 17thĀ at Cross Country Regionals and earned a trip to Nationals for a second-straight season. During Indoor season, the junior finished ninth in the West Region in the Mile (5:16.91) and was a member of the 4x400M Relay Team (4:38.10). She closed out the year with four top-50 marks during Outdoor Track & Field season. Heien claimed All-Region honors in the 800M after finishing second in the West and 28thĀ in NCAA DIII (2:11.17).Ā Ā She tacked on the seventh-fastest time in the 1,500M (4:38.57), 23rd-fastest time in the 400M (59.16) and was a member of the 4x400M Relay quartet (3:58.35).Ā

McCoy Harmon is a recent graduate with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Music from Portland, Oregon. The junior, who graduated a year early, finished in the top-50 in the region in four throwing events during her final season at Lewis & Clark. During the Indoor season, McCoy Harmon placed 29thĀ in the West in the Weight Throw (10.61M/34-9.75) and Shot Put (9.78M/32-1.0 Feet). She added on top-50 marks in the Discus (31st: 35.06M/115-0 Feet) and Javelin (45th: 30.11M/98-9 Feet) during Outdoor Track & Field.Ā
