(Lewis & Clark 1-3)
(Caltech 0-2-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
After going down 1-0 in the opening three minutes, the Pioneers answered with three goals and survived a late Beavers strike with just over four minutes to go.
Senior
Giselle Bodeen and sophomore
Carli Driskill combined for the game-winning tally which also marked a pair of collegiate firsts. Bodeen's goal with 6:04 remaining was the first of his collegiate career and her first points since her freshman campaign. For Driskill, who earned the assist on the play, she registered her first collegiate point on the game-winning tally.
Sophomore keeper
Anna Ingadottir added a collegiate first of her own. The keeper made her fifth collegiate appearance and first of 2023 on Sunday. She made four saves on six shots to earn her first collegiate victory.
Senior
Celeste Schreifels was involved in each of the Pioneers first two goals. She found fellow senior
Sasha Raimondo early in the first half to tie the game at 1-1. Just after halftime, Schreifels connected with reigning Northwest Conference Rookie of the Year
Megan Yanagi to give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage.
Caltech opened the scoring 2:44 into the contest. Aurelia Kuester curled in a shot from the right corner to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers responded back less than 10 minutes later. Schreifels found Raimondo just outside the six-yard box on the right wing and Raimondo blasted a shot past the keeper for a 1-1 tie.
Yanagi gave the Pioneers the lead for good at 51:20. The goal would be similar to the first, with Schreifels finding Yanagi on the right wing in tight and Yanagi snuck a shot just past the keeper.
Lewis & Clark seemingly put the game out of reach at 83:56 on Bodeen's first collegiate goal.
Caltech managed to keep their hopes alive, as they cut it to 3-2 at 85:59 on a Sophia Elam goal.
The hosts managed one final shot, but Marie Choi-Schattle's shot went well wide in the 89
th minute.
