Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers opened their season Wednesday night at Griswold Stadium, with a 1-1 tie after double-overtime against the Northwest Eagles. The Pioneers last faced off against the Eagles in 2019, losing 3-1.
Brecklyn Beighle put the Pios on the board in the first half, when she scored off a penalty kick. Beighle returns as the team's leading scorer, with five goals and two assists from last season.
Sophia Young started in goal for the Pios, playing the first half and returning for the second overtime. Abby Prager tended goal for 55 minutes consecutively for the Pioneers in the second half and first overtime. The pair combined for seven saves, with Prager making four in the second half alone. Young's save in the second overtime kept the Eagles from the win.

Key Moments
The Pioneers held a 1-0 lead for the first half of the game after Beighle scored off a penalty kick in the 14th minute of play. The goal was the first of Beighle's two shots in the game, and her first goal of the season. The Pioneers combined for nine shots, with five shots on goal, but Northwest goalie Hannah Pylant denied the Pios' second penalty kick opportunity in the 52nd minute. Pylant also denied the Pioneers after another one-on-one opportunity in overtime.
The Eagles tied the game at 67:28 when Claire Jo Diede scored Northwest's first goal of the season with an assist from Callie Wright. Veteran goalie Prager made an additional five saves between the second half and first overtime.
Both teams played a chippy game, combining for 37 fouls and five yellow cards.
