Key Moments
Unique to the Spring 2021 schedule, the Pioneers (1-1, 1-1 NWC) play each of their Northwest Conference opponents twice in the same week. After a 4-1 loss to the Bruins last Wednesday at George Fox, Hutto was happy that the team bounced back.
"It was really satisfying to see that we can address our tactical issues and find some unity to come back from a 4-1 loss a few days earlier," Hutto said. "The energy and momentum was with us and that's what pushed me to keep getting into the attacking third. It was really cool to have that adrenaline rush after scoring the winning goal in an already very intense match."
George Fox held possession for almost 60 percent of the game, but both teams had nearly the same amount of shots (9-8 in favor of the Bruins). Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Young stopped both shots on goal by the Bruins in the first half before allowing the early second-half score by Beardemphl.
15 minutes later, Brecklyn Beighle pushed the tempo and fed the ball forward to Hutto who battled with George Fox's Hannah Moya down the right side. Moya was called for a foul as they raced even with the six-yard box and Hutto tried to center the ball. On the penalty kick, Brecklyn Beighle scored to the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.
"This game we really came together as a team," Kennie Beighle said after the last home opener of her Pios career. "We figured out what we need to improve on and delivered. We played for each other and came through to win it."
In the 74th minute, shy of midfield, Kennie Beighle squeezed through two defenders on the run to feed the ball ahead to Hutto, who chased the ball 30 yards and narrowly legged it toward the net ahead of sprinting George Fox goalkeeper Annalisa Klein for a goal from 30 yards out.
