Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. -- Four starters scored in double figures as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers won 64-58 in a back-and-forth Northwest Conference opener against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes on Friday at Pamplin Sports Center.
Jamison Richards and Peyton Romo each had 10 second-half points as the Pioneers overcame a one-point halftime deficit. There were seven lead changes and eight ties. Pacific Lutheran trailed by five at the end of the first quarter and used a five-point run at the end of the third quarter to enter the fourth tied at 43.
The Pioneers outscored the Lutes, 9-0, in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to go up by a game-best nine points.

Lewis & Clark (4-4, 1-0 NWC) started slowly and didn't get its first field goal until 6:51 left in the first half. Charlotte Carroll had five of her 12 points in the opening period and bounced back after going 0 for 8 from the floor in last Sunday's loss to Walla Walla. Carroll finished Friday's game 5 for 8 from the field and had five rebounds.
The Lutes held an advantage in bench points on Friday, 23-12. Katy Cook, Taylor Schmidtke and Jaida Wood all hit threes in the second quarter. The Lutes went 4 for 4 from deep in the period and outscored the Pios, 17-11. PLU was 13 of 26 in the game from 3-point range, the most made against Lewis & Clark this season, while the Pios went 6 for 23.
Jessica Cerne led the Pios off the bench with nine points, five in the third quarter. Trailing by three, Cerne drew fouls twice in the final minute of the period to bring the Pios even entering the fourth. Lewis & Clark outrebounded PLU, 12-5, in the quarter and outscored the Lutes, 6-2, in second-chance points.
After back-to-back quarters of 40-plus percent shooting, the Lutes hit 31 percent of their shots in the fourth. Meanwhile, the Pios scored multiple threes for the first time since the opening quarter and made nine trips to the free-throw line in the final 10 minutes of the game. PLU (3-3, 1-0 NWC) committed nine turnovers in the fourth quarter on its way to 29 for the game, the most by a Pios opponent this season.
