Pioneers tie Whitworth after forcing overtime in eastern Washington road series

Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers (9-6-2, 7-5-1) forced the game into overtime on Saturday afternoon at Westside Athletics Field off a late goal from Celeste Schreifels, but ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw with the Whitworth Pirates (8-6-3, 5-5-3). Schreifels scored in the 88th minute of play to match an 86th minute goal from Kalena Pfaeltzer to keep the Pioneers alive.

The Pioneers outshot the Pirates 19-14, with eight shots on goal. Chloe Helenihi and Macy O'Hara combined for four shots, with one-shot contributions from Sara Klott, Becca McCullough, Elsa Horsted and Olivia Cowley.

Key Moments

In a tough match for the Pioneers, both Beighle and Schreifels were able to come up big at make-or-break moments during the game to keep the Pioneers within one goal and send the game into overtime.

The back line of Alexa Myers, Sofia Congram, Madi Pastores and Abby Hayes played a critical role in shutting down some of the Pirates' counters and attacks. Myers, Congram, Pastores and Hayes all played the full 110 minutes and stayed consistent in their efforts. Prager also kept Lewis & Clark in the game with a big penalty kick save in the second half when she guessed correctly and kept her hands on the ball, an uncommon occurrence for penalty kicks.
