PORTLAND, Ore. -- With a shutout win over the Whitman Blues at Griswold Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers extended their end-of-season win streak to four games. The Pioneers defeated the Blues 1-0 after one of the most physical matches of the season, with both teams combining for 29 fouls.

Julia Markmann put the Pios on the board just 6:42 into the first half, setting the tone for the Pioneers for the rest of the match. Markmann's goal ties a school record for consecutive matches scoring a point and came off an assist from Terra Clarke, a career-first for the senior.

Abby Prager tended goal for the Pioneers for the full 90 minutes, making four saves. Her fourth was made with just a minute and a half left in the game and was key to clinching the win.

Key Moments

The Pioneers dominated possession in the first half, striking early in the seventh minute for what would ultimately be the game-winning goal. A throw-in from Clarke resulted in the ball being launched into the fray towards Markmann, who headed it into the left side of the goal past Blues' goalie Allie Seracuse. The Blues tried to respond on a breakaway but were unable to get past the Pioneers' defense. The Pios went into the half leading 1-0 and having limited the Blues to just one shot. 

The second half was chippy, with both teams becoming increasingly more aggressive on a slippery turf. The Blues challenged the Pioneers defense, who worked hard in the second 45 minutes of play to keep the ball from getting near the net. The Blues took 5 shots to the Pioneers' four but were unable to get the ball past a defensive line of Alexa Hanson, Madi Pastores and Alexa Meyers. Goalie Abby Prager made three of her four saves of the game in the second half, her most dramatic happening with just 1:18 left to play.

Anna Saucedo, Caroline Hennes, Brecklyn Beighle and Becca McCullough combined for five of the Pioneers' seven shots.
