Caroline Hennes scores lone goal in victory against Whitman

Box Score

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers ended a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over the Whitman Blues (1-9-0, 1-6-0 NWC) Saturday afternoon in Walla Walla. The Pioneers (4-6-1, 3-4-0 NWC) dominated possession in the first half, keeping the ball in Blues' territory to take eight of their 14 shots.

The Pios couldn't find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play, with Blues goalie Elly Wolfe making five of her nine saves in the match. Julia Markmann struck early, taking the Pioneers' first shot just 1:12 into the game. Markmann followed up with four more shots in the match, all of which were saved by Wolfe.

Shelby Vaver created two good opportunities for the Pios, firing off a shot in the 42 minute that notched another save for Wolfe and following up after halftime with a shot that went high. The Pioneers finally broke through with just 15 minutes of play left on a corner kick from Brecklyn Beighle that found Caroline Hennes. Hennes finished the play past Wolfe and the Pioneers defense kept the Blues from answering before the clock ran out.
