Pioneers allow two second-half goals in loss

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers (3-7-1, 1-6-0 NWC) were defeated by the Pacific Lutheran Lutes (6-2-2, 5-1-0 NWC)

after ending the first half being tied, 0-0. Megan Sawyer started the game in goal for the Pios and saved five shots. The Lutes pulled ahead in the second half with two goals. 

The Pioneers struggled offensively with only having one shot on goal for the entire game compared to the Lutes who had eight shots on goals. The Pioneers had a hard time defending the Lutes with their fast offense. The Pioneers continue conference play with the record of 1-5 in conference.

Key Moments

Early in the first half the Lutes were aggresive on offense. In the first half, the Lutes got eight shots alone while the Pioneers only had three shots. Megan Sawyer defended the Pios with three saves in the first half. 

The second half Ella Viesturs tried to get the Pioneers rolling offensively with two shots that were blocked by the Lutes goalie. The Lutes ended up scoring back to back after Viesturs attempt to get the Pios on the scoreboard. The Lutes took the victory, 2-0.

The Pioneers continue their conference play next in Washington playing Whitman and Whitworth next weekend, Oct. 6 and Oct. 7.
