Pios pick up first NWC win

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Seniors Miyah Leith and Lauren Wood each hit over 50 percent of their shots and combined for 34 points as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers won their first Northwest Conference game of the season, 75-53, over the Pacific Boxers on Monday night at Pamplin Sports Center.

Leith scored 20 on 8 of 12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds, while Wood added 14 points and nine rebounds. Alyx Crager and Natalie Kelly had nine points apiece and Rachel Cox scored seven off the bench.

The Pioneers were out in front early, taking a nine-point lead midway through the first quarter, which they extended to 28-14 by the end of the quarter on Natalie Kelly's buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Kelly finished the game 4 of 5 from the field.

Pacific remains winless on the season, falling to 0-8 overall and 0-2 within the conference. Jenne Brown led the Boxers with 14 points.

The Pios extended the 14-point lead in the second quarter to go up 44-28 at halftime, eventually taking the game's largest lead, 24 points, on Wood's layup with 6:01 to go in the third.

Lewis & Clark improved to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NWC and will play at Northwest in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
