Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark Pioneers dropped a 3-0 home decision to visiting Linfield on a cloudy Sunday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.
The Pioneers played the aggressor for much of the match with a season-high 18 fouls, dropped their third match in a row, falling to 3-11-2 on the season and 2-9-1 in the Northwest Conference.
Linfield (7-8-1, 5-6-1) snapped a three-match losing streak, have now won both matches against Lewis & Clark this season. The Wildcats also had 16 fouls in the game, took a 1-0 win back on Sept. 24.
As the first half progressed, Linfield drew first blood as Desirae DesRosiers broke the scoreless tie with her first tally of the season from Natalie Amara in the 33rd minute. DesRosiers took a short pass and tapped the ball into the right corner of the net.
It was the Wildcats first goal since Oct. 8, breaking a three-match scoreless streak.
Twelve minutes later, the Wildcats made it 2-0 as DesRosiers tallied her second goal of the season on a shot that was initially saved by Pios goalkeeper Hannah Osmundson. However, Osmundson failed to haul in the ball as DesRosiers connected on the ricochet.
Lewis & Clark forward Anna Saucedo nearly cut her team's deficit in half at the 57th minute with an excellent shot on goal from 10 yards out, only to be saved by Linfield's goalkeeper Madi Reimer (2 saves).
Linfield made it 3-0 at the 63rd minute with Michayla Sponsel registering her second goal of the season.
Lewis & Clark had six shots on the day with Saucedo leading her team with a pair.
Up next for Lewis & Clark is a home conference match with Willamette on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Griswold Stadium.
