PORTLAND, Ore. -- Limited to three shots, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers forced two saves by Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Takara Mitsui and lost 2-0 to the 16th-ranked Lutes on Sunday afternoon at Griswold Stadium. The match was Lewis & Clark's first Northwest Conference contest at home.

Pacific Lutheran scored both of its goals after a whistle. Kelly White was awarded a penalty kick in the 22nd minute after Lewis & Clark was called for a handball in the 18-yard area. In the 44th minute, Kaylie Rozell scored on a free kick from 25 yards out.

Otherwise, Lewis & Clark starting goalkeeper Hannah Osmundson saved the other five shots on goal. The Lutes held a 19-3 advantage in shots overall, including a 13-1 edge in the first half. Pacific Lutheran (6-0-2; 3-0-1 NWC) also took 11 corner kicks whereas the Pios had one.

It was the fourth game this season in which Lewis & Clark (2-6-0; 1-3-0 NWC) was held to single-digit shot attempts.

Erin Lutz and Lulu Adams forced saves by Mitsui in the late second half. Lutz's took hers first in the 76th minute, which was the Pioneers first shot attempt since the fifth minute when Taylor Hudson was stopped by Mitsui.

Lewis & Clark head coach Jim Tursi acknowledged that playing home is a welcome change for his team, who played five of their first seven regular-season games on the road. Sunday's match with PLU was the first of four straight and seven of the next eight in Portland.

The Pioneers host Whitworth and Whitman on back-to-back days, Oct. 1-2, before a weekday match with Willamette on Oct. 6.
