FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Caroline Hennes scored off Lewis & Clark's only corner kick of the game, and the Pioneers defense kept Pacific scoreless despite a lot of activity near Lewis & Clark's goal in the second half, for a 1-0 victory over the home-team Boxers on Saturday afternoon at Hanson Stadium. 

Lewis & Clark's leader in goals, Hennes, scored her fourth of the season off Rochelle Jordan's corner in the 62nd minute for the game's only score. The win is the first for the Pioneers in three Northwest Conference games this season.

"First half, we played exceptional as we have been the last three games," said Lewis & Clark head coach Jim Tursi. "We got off a set piece, which is probably how our goals will come this year. Very pleased with the result."

The Pioneers used a good defensive performance from starting goalkeeper Hannah Osmundson, who made five saves, and defenders Isobel Fikso, Paige Barta, Alexa Hanson and Mackenzie Cornell-Maier to preserve the win. Before and after Hennes' goal, the Boxers had two free kicks from or near the 18-yard line plus a shot from Ashley Park-Hunt that went just wide. In the 89th minute, Breezy Brookbank's shot went high and stuck on top of the goal.

Overall, the Pios faced seven of Pacific's 11 shots in the second half.

"It's really exciting to get our first shutout," said Cornell-Maier. "They played three up front, which is always difficult because everyone has to be on. We had a lot of help from our midfield and it's always nice to be able to hold it down."

Lewis & Clark returns home to Griswold Stadium on Sunday, hosting Pacific Lutheran at noon.
