Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Behind a brace from Kylie Carera, Lewis & Clark scored two second-half goals to claim a 4-3 victory, and its first win in conference, against George Fox on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.
George Fox opened the scoring less than 10 minutes into the match, converting a rebound attempt after Lewis & Clark goalkeeper Kelley Koeppen made back-to-back saves. Koeppen made the initial saves on a pair of shots less than five yards away before Emma Weme converted in the third shot attempt.
Lewis & Clark answered with consecutive goals in a span of a minute and six seconds. Carera leveled the score at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Emily Thompson tallied the first of two assists in the match, laying a ball off near the edge of the box for Carera, who fired a shot into the upper, right corner of the goal.
Thompson put the Pioneers in front 2-1 in the 18th minute, collecting a bouncing ball near the edge of the box before slotting a shot into the bottom left corner.
The Bruins equalized in the 22nd minute as Savannah Moisan converted a long-distance strike, sending the two teams into the break tied at 2-2.
Controlling much of the possession in the second half, Lewis & Clark reclaimed the 50th minute. Megan Ratfield delivered a well-placed cross in front of goal and Anna Thorndike tallied the Pioneers third goal of the match with a quick back heel flick under the goalkeeper.
Carera extended Lewis & Clark's advantage with her second goal of the game, and the fourth of the match for the Pioneers, slotting Thompson's pass with a one-time shot into the bottom right corner in the 76th minute.
The Bruins threw numbers forward late, pulling a goal back as an errant cross bounced off a Lewis & Clark defender into the goal. Koeppen helped secure the win late with a key stop in the 85th minute, denying Kenna Meinhart on the breakaway.
Lewis & Clark plays again on Sunday when Pacific visits Griswold Stadium at noon.
