Women's Basketball Loses 69-53 to Puget Sound

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's basketball team fell 69-53 to the Puget Sound Loggers Saturday night in Northwest Conference action.

The Pioneers fall to 8-15 on the season and 5-9 in the conference with just two games remaining. The Loggers maintain control of second place in the NWC standings with the win, improving to 20-3 overall and 11-3 in the conference.

The Pioneers were led by 15 points from Miyah Leith who was 7-of-13 from the floor. Casey Zinn was the only other Pioneer to finish in double-figures with 10 points. Ayisat Afolabi led all players with nine rebounds, while netting eight points. The sophomore also ended the night with a game-high three blocks and a steal.

Emily Sheldon led the Loggers with 18 points, while Amanda Forshay ended the night with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Lewis & Clark's only lead of the game came in the opening minutes with an Afolabi jumper. The Loggers responded with a 17-4 run over the next six minutes to take their first double-digit lead of the game.

The Loggers continued to pile on the points as the period came to a close with the Pios trailing 47-26.

Despite opening the second half on a 15-4 run and outscoring the Loggers in the second half, the Pioneers would never be able to pull closer than 10 points.

The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at George Fox.
