Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- In somewhat a deja vu moment for the Lewis & Clark women's soccer team, the Pioneers dominated the amount of shots in the match, but had no points to show for it late. Much like the team's 2-1 overtime victory over George Fox the day before, the Pios needed an overtime goal to win the match, doing so on a 97th minute score by Kylie Carera to defeat Pacific 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.
In the first overtime period, Carera took Lewis & Clark's first shot in extra time from just inside the 18-yard box off the pass from defender Isobel Fikso and scored it inside the far post to win the match for Lewis & Clark.
The goal was Carera's fifth of the season, tied for the team lead with Emily Thompson and Anna Thorndike, and came on the 21st shot of the match for the Pioneers. Pacific goalkeepers Kailey Hifumi and Ari Bali made a combined five saves in the match, with Ball allowing the overtime goal to take her first loss of the season.
Lewis & Clark (9-6-1; 5-6-1 NWC) kept Pacific (3-12-2; 3-8-2) to just five shots in the match, helping freshman goalkeeper Sandra Alvarenga to a shutout after facing no shots on-goal.
The Pios had a 21-5 overall shot advantage, including a 12-2 edge in the second half, and a total of six shots in-frame.
Thompson and Thorndike took a match-best five shots each with two apiece forcing saves. Thompson took one shot in the first half before missing high twice and wide once in the second half.
After scoring the game winner on Saturday against George Fox, Thorndike took the match's first shot in the 11th minute, forcing a save by Hifumi before doing so again in the 18th minute and missing a header before halftime. She missed high and wide in the second half.
Taylor Hudson (pictured right) also tried five times, a season-high for the senior, with one on-goal in the 78th minute. Her lone first half try was blocked before missing wide twice and high once in the second half.
Fikso's assist was her first of the season. Along with Sarah Schoville and Hannah Stoddard, Fikso is now tied for assists among Lewis & Clark defenders, leading the group in points this season with three.
The match was played in heavy rain and it was the seventh overtime match for the Boxers, who are now 2-3-2 in those games this season. Kathleen McIntyre took three of Pacific's five shots.
Lewis & Clark won all four matches against George Fox and Pacific this season, including holding the Boxers to no goals in the two games.
The win takes the Pioneers closer to .500 for the season, as Lewis & Clark improved to 5-6-1 in the Northwest Conference, two points behind Linfield for fourth place.
Before finishing the season with three more road games, Lewis & Clark celebrates senior day on Saturday in the Pioneers final home match of the year against Linfield at 12 p.m.
