Thompson Nets Lone Goal For Women's Soccer in 2-1 Double-Overtime Loss

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. - Junior Emily Thompson netted the Lewis & Clark women's soccer teams only goal on Saturday afternoon against Pacific Lutheran where the Pioneers fell 2-1 in the final minutes of the second overtime period.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 4-2-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Lutes improve to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

Thompson, who now leads the team in goals so far this season, put the Pioneers on the board early in the first half. The goal came in the 12th minute of action when Rochelle Jordan played the ball to Anna Thorndike at the top of the 18. Thorndike placed the ball through the Lute defense to an open Thompson who kept the ball on the ground, beating the keeper to the far post.

The Lutes evened the game six minutes later after a ball deflected off a Pioneer to Lauren Larson who dribbled a bit before firing a shot that made its way into the goal.

With just under eight minutes remaining in the final overtime period the Lutes once again managed to find the back of the net, this time on a shot from 20-yards out.

The two sides were fairly matched in terms of shots throughout the game with the Lutes edging out the Pioneers 14-13.

Lewis & Clark returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12 p.m. at home against Pacific.
