Softball Splits With Willamette; Rosario Finishes With Five Hits

PORTLAND, Ore- The Lewis & Clark Softball team split a double-header Sunday against Willamette losing the first game 8-5 before winning game two 7-1 at Huston Sports Complex. Tiana Rosario led the Pioneers going 5-8 on the day at the plate including a homerun. The Pioneers move to 10-20 overall, with a 6-15 Northwest Conference record, while the Bearcats move to 15-14 overall with an 11-8 conference record.

Game One:

Hannah Dal Pra got things started for the Pioneers in the bottom of the first inning when she knocked a two run homer. Rosario singled to left putting herself on for Dal Pra.

The Bearcats tied it up in the top of the third using two hits and three Pioneer errors to their advantage. They didn't stop in the fourth scoring three more runs on three hits and one error tallying the score to 5-2. Scoring again in the fifth, the Bearcats used a walk, a stolen base, and then a single to center field to score.

Rosario, attempting to get the Pioneers back in the game, hit a solo homer to center in the bottom of the fifth.

One run an inning, kept the Bearcats going as they scored another run in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The Pioneers fought back in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs on three hits but it wasn't enough to come back and take a win. Ashley Bolick singled down the left field line, advanced to second on Rosario single, and to third on a fielders' choice hit by Dal Pra. Hallie Knife put the ball in play scoring Bolick from third and advanced Dal Pra to second. A single by Lindsay Yearman scored the last run of the inning for the Pioneers as Dal Pra scored from second.

Rosario led the Pioneers with three hits, while Dal Pra and Yearman had two. Bolick and Jenai Rojo each finished with one hit. Erin Norris for the Bearcats finished with three hits leading the way.

Madison Hollenbeck (6-11) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching six innings allowing seven runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out four. Knife pitched the seventh for the Pioneers allowing one run on one hit and walking one. Jade Smith (10-3) takes the win for the Bearcats pitching a complete game allowing five runs on nine hits, while striking out five.

Game Two:

Game two went the Pioneers way beginning in the bottom of the second inning. Hollenbeck led the charge starting with a double, and scoring on a double hit by Yearman. Kalin Rooney grounded out to second pushing Yearman to third. Bolick squeeze bunted Yearman in from third and was safe at first. An error by the shortstop advanced Bolick to second and allowed Kelsey Buck to reach. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. A double roped by Haley Robinson scored both runners. Staying hot, Rosario hit a single to right center that scored Robinson from second and tallied the inning total to five runs for the Pioneers.

The Bearcats scored their one and only run in the top of the third when Kayla Rieger bunted to get on, stole second base, and advanced to third on a ground out. Myranda Ramirez hit a single through the left side scoring Rieger from third.

The bottom of the fourth brought more runs for the Pioneers when Buck reached on a fielders' choice and scored on a Rosario double down the left field line. A Dal Pra double followed, and Rosario scored bringing the run total to seven for the Pioneers and closing out the game as no one else scored for either team. 

Rosario and Hollenbeck finished with two hits for the Pioneers, while Robinson, Dal Pra, Yearman and Rooney each finished with one.

Rooney (2-2) takes the win for the Pioneers pitching a complete game allowing one run on six hits and striking out three. Victoria Bradshaw (3-5) takes the loss for the Bearcats pitching one and two thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on four htis and striking out one. Makayla Hari pitched the remainder of the game for the Bearcats giving up two runs on four hits.

The Pioneers attempt to square off against George Fox again for a single make-up game of Northwest Conference action April 11 beginning at 5 p.m.
