Alvarez and Marglin Earn Spots on Regional All-Tournament Team

The pair both played key roles in the Lewis & Clark's win over Chapman University

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark softball graduate student Mari Alvarez and junior Lacey Marglin each earned spot on the McMinnville Regional All-Tournament Team, Linfield University Athletics announced at the conclusion of the McMinnville Regional.Ā

The duo combined to help lead Lewis & Clark to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory and the Pioneers earned a spot in the Regional Semifinals. As a team, Lewis & Clark finished the season with a program-record 32 wins and advanced to their first-ever NCAA Tournament and second-ever Northwest Conference Championship Series.Ā

Alvarez went 4-8 across three games and led the team with her .636 on-base percentage, 1.000 slugging percentage, three RBI and two walks. She belted one double and one home run and finished with a team-high eight total bases. The graduate student chipped in two walks and one hit by pitch. She posted 19 putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage.Ā

In the Pioneers win over Chapman University, the first baseman went 3-3 with two runs, three RBI, a walk and a hit by pitch in five trips to the plate. She recorded all three of her RBI in the final two innings, with a double in the top of the seventh as part of a three-run rally and a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning. Alvarez added a base hit against #6 Linfield and reached on a walk against Chapman in the season finale.

Marglin matched Alvarez with four hits in eight at-bats and was one of three players to finish the weekend hitting .500 (Emily Patton). She tacked on one RBI and a walk. The junior center fielder added two putouts and two outfield assists across three games.Ā

In the Opener, Marglin went 3-4 with an RBI single that tied the game at 4-4 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. She was down to her final strike, before she laced a single to right-center that score senior Pippi Jepsen from second base. The junior added a base hit and two outfield assists against #6 Linfield on Day 2. In the season finale, she reached on a walk to reach safely in all three games.Ā
