Five Softball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Juniors Emily Patton, Charlize Pope and Madison Scroggins were all repeat honorees

GREENWOOD, Ind.—Lewis & Clark College softball placed five student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for the second-straight year, the CSC announced on Tuesday morning.Ā

Juniors Emily Patton, Charlize Pope and Madison Scroggins were all repeat honorees. Junior Lacey Marglin and sophomore Ryan Jurischk each were recognized for the time in their collegiate careers.Ā

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and must reach certain athletic marks. Position players had to play in at least 90 percent of their team's games or start at least 66% of the team's games. Pitchers had to appear in at least 17 times or throw a minimum of 35 innings. Programs could be represented by a maximum of five student-athletes.

Jurischk is a Physics major, with a minor in Mathematics, hailing from Reno, Nevada. The sophomore pitcher played a key role out of the Pioneers bullpen as she made a huge step forward in her second season. Jurischk appeared in 22 contests and made three starts. She went 2-0 with one save in 51.2 innings pitched. The sophomore posted a 4.34 ERA and struck out 16 against eight walks. Jurischk pitched more than an inning in 16 of her 22 outings and three or more innings in eight contests. The sophomore did not allow a run in 10 outings, including a streak of seven-consecutive, scoreless appearances from March 11 to April 5. In her first collegiate start, she threw a five-inning, three-hit shutout and struck out three in a five-inning win over Wesminster College (Mo.).Ā

Marglin is a Psychology major hailing from Antioch, California. The junior outfielder enjoyed a breakout season as one of the Pioneers primary starters in center field and the designated player positions. She led the team in batting average (.396) and finished tied for first in doubles (12). Marglin added career-highs in hits (38), runs (21), RBI (16), stolen bases (4-5) and sacrifice bunts (five). She also posted the best on-base percentage (.417) and slugging percentage (.542) of her career. She started 31 games and played in 41 of the team's 45 contests. Marglin hit safely in 22 contests and recorded multiple hits 12 times. She enjoyed one of the best doubleheaders of her career on April 13 at Pacific Lutheran University. Marglin went 5-8 with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, a triple and a stolen base.Ā

Patton continues to rack up awards this Spring. The First Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region honoree is a Psychology major from Peoria, Arizona. Patton tied for the team lead with 50 hits and finished in the top-three on the Pioneers in runs (36), walks (12), stolen bases (15-16) and sacrifice bunts (five). She also paced the team with 84 assists and finished with a .955 fielding percentage. The junior started all 45 games and posted a hit in 34 contests. She posted multiple hits 12 times and an RBI in 24 different games. Patton hit safely in all three of Lewis & Clark's NCAA Tournament games and went 4-8 with two runs and an RBI. She put together one of the best doubleheaders of her career on April 5 against Whitworth. Patton went 4-7 with four runs, two RBI, a double and a stolen base.Ā 
Pope is a Rhetoric and Media Studies major, with a minor in English, hailing from El Cerrito, California. The junior pitcher earned the award for a second-straight season after serving as the Pioneers number two starter this Spring. She started 17 contests and appeared in 22 total games this season. Pope posted a 9-3 record with a 5.14 ERA and posted five complete games. She struck out 49 batters and held opponents to a .322 batting average. The junior started the season with an 8-1 record, including recording wins in in three-straight outings from March 15 to March 23. She allowed three earned runs or fewer in 12 of her outings. Pope threw a five-inning, complete-game shutout on April 5 in a 13-0 win over Whitworth University.Ā Ā

Scroggins is a Biology major hailing from Antelope, California. The junior left fielder put together the best season of her career to earn her first career All-Conference accolades (Second Team). Scroggins posted new career-highs in batting average (.366), on-base percentage (.408), slugging percentage (.429), hits (41), walks (seven) and stolen bases (8-10). She hit safely in 26 of her 42 appearances (37 starts). The junior posted multiple hits 13 times and multiple RBI in five contests. She recorded at least one hit in all three NCAA Tournament games and finished 3-11 with two runs and two RBI. Scroggins put together one of the best doubleheaders of her career on April 19 at Linfield. She went 5-8 with a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base and finished with three hits in the Pioneers win over the number four team in NCAA DIII.Ā
