PORTLAND, Ore- The Lewis & Clark softball team split their last double-header of the season Monday with Willamette losing the first game 2-3 and winning game two 3-2. The Pioneers finish the season with 12-25 overall record and a 8-20 Northwest Conference record while Willamette will enter the Northwest Conference tournament as the fourth seed.
Game One:
The Bearcats got on the board first in the first inning with a two run shot by Heather Winslow to center field. Catcher Maddie Lee caught runners stealing in the first and second innings for the Pioneers helping keep the Bearcat runners at bay.
Lindsay Yearman led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left center to put the Pioneers within one.
With two outs, Winslow drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a double hit down the left field line to put the Bearcats up by two.
Yearman took a walk in the sixth, stole second and advanced to third on an error by the shortstop. The throw went out of play scoring Yearman from third. The Pioneers couldn't score anymore taking game one as a loss 2-3.
Kalin Rooney (2-5) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching seven innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out one. Jenai Rojo and Lindsay Yearman finished with two hits for the Pioneers.
Game Two:
The Pioneers broke the game open in the bottom of the third when Lee led the inning off with a single through the left side of the field. Kelsey Buck then was hit by a pitch to put runners in scoring position for Haley Robinson who sacrifice bunted both runners over a base. Tiana Rosario then reached on an error by the center fielder and advanced to second on the throw, while Lee scored and Buck was thrown out at home. Hannah Dal Pra then stepped up to the plate ripping a double to right field scoring Rosario and putting the Pioneers up a quick 2-0.
The Bearcats got on the board in the sixth when Winslow led the inning off with a walk and scored on a double that was hit to left center.
Rojo singled to center in the sixth and was pinch run for by Kylee Kennel. Kennel stole second and advanced to third on a fielders' choice hit by Amanda Rabith. Lee then singled up the middle scoring Kennel for the third run of the game.
The Bearcats scored one more in the seventh using two hits but couldn't come up with a win as the Pioneers capture a win in the last game of the season 3-2.
Madison Hollenbeck (8-13) pitched seven innings giving up two runs on five hits, while walking three. The Pioneers finished with nine hits led by Hollenbeck and Lee with two a piece.
