FOREST GROVE, Ore- The Lewis & Clark softball team split a double-header against Northwest Conference opponent Pacific Monday in weather related make up games. The Pioneers took game one 5-3, before falling in game two 0-7. The Pioneers move to 7-19 overall with a 3-14 conference record, while the Boxers move to 15-9 overall with a 10-8 conference record.
Game One:
The Boxers led off the game in the first inning with two runs on three hits. Two quick singles, and a sac bunt advanced runners to second and third. A sac fly scored run number one, while a single through the left side scored run number two.
Haley Robinson started the come back in the bottom of the first when she reached on a single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball. Tiana Rosario was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. Hannah Dal Pra then stepped to the plate hitting a shot down the left field line that scored Robinson and advanced Rosario. Madison Hollenbeck then sac bunted to score the second run of the inning and tie the game up.
The Boxers only other run came in the top of the third when they used two walks and an error to their advantage.
Breaking it open in the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers used three hits and an error to score three runs. Amanda Rabith reached first with a single, but was thrown out at second on a Caitlin Basilio fielders' choice. Basilio advanced to second off a Kelsey Buck single to right center. An error by the second baseman put Robinson on, advancing Buck to third, and Basilio to score the first run of the inning. Robinson stole second putting herself in scoring position for Dal Pra who singled to left center scoring both Buck and Robinson. The Pioneers wouldn't produce any more runs, but neither would the Boxers, giving the Pioneers the win 5-3.
Dal Pra led the Pioneers with two hits and three RBI's, while Robinson had two hits and one RBI.
Hollenbeck (6-10) takes the win for the Pioneers pitching seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking three and striking out three. Allie Sims (8-4) takes the loss for the Boxers pitching four and two third innings giving up five runs on seven hits, while walking one. Sara Aasness also saw time on the mound for the Boxers.
Game Two:
The Boxers broke the game open in the first scoring one run on two hits and an error. The Pioneers put runners on in the first two innings, but were unable to score a run.
The fourth inning won by the Boxers, scored five runs on four hits and an error. The inning began with a walk followed by two outs with only one runner on second. A single, error, and back-to-back doubles were too much for the Pioneers as the Boxers tallied the score to six runs in their favor.
Adding one more run in the seventh, the Boxers used a lead off walk, and two singles to score the seventh and final run. The Pioneers were unable to score any runs in the seventh and the Boxers take the win 7-0.
Kalin Rooney (0-2) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching three and two third innings allowing six runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out one. Hallie Knife also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers giving up one run on three hits, while walking one and striking out three. Aasness (7-4) takes the win for the Boxers pitching a complete game shutout giving up four hits, while walking four and striking out three.
The Pioneers continue Northwest Conference make-up games Wednesday April 2 when they head to Tacoma to play Puget Sound in a double-header that begins at 1 p.m. that was previously scheduled on March 2.
