FOREST GROVE, Ore- Homeruns were not enough for the Lewis & Clark softball team who dropped two games to Pacific Sunday losing the first game 6-3, and the second 3-1 in nine innings. Jenai Rojo hits first collegiate home run in game two loss. The Pioneers move to 2-13 in Northwest Conference play and 6-18 overall, while the Boxers move to 8-7 in conference action and 13-8 overall.
Game One:
It was a hard fought battle until the Boxers broke it open in the fifth, scoring five runs off three hits and using three walks to their advantage. The top of the sixth brought one more run in for the Boxers. Kylee Yamamoto led off the inning with a hit by pitch followed by a walk to Becca Moen. Rachel Roberts then doubled to center field scoring Yamamoto from second.
The Pioneers began to fight back in the bottom of the sixth when Hannah Dal Pra was hit by a pitch putting herself on for a Madison Hollenbeck homerun to left center. Shutting the Boxers down in the seventh gave the Pioneers one more shot at scoring some more runs. Kelsey Buck singled and advanced home when Haley Robinson cranked a double to left field scoring the only other run for the Pioneers and ending the game with a final score of 6-3.
Robinson and Hollenbeck led the Pioneers with two hits each, while Buck finished with one.
Kalin Rooney (0-1) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching four and two third innings giving up five runs on five hits, while walking six and striking out three. Hallie Knife also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers pitching two and one third innings giving up one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out two. Allie Sims (8-3) takes the win for the Boxers finishing all seven innings giving up three runs on five hits, while walking four and striking out one.
Game Two:
The Boxers scored first in the third inning when Natividad reached on a fielders' choice, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an Oshiro double to right field. Oshiro was thrown out at third on a relay in from the outfield trying to stretch out a triple.
The only run for the Pioneers came in the fourth when freshman Rojo hit her first collegiate homerun to tie up the game.
It was scoreless until the ninth inning when the Boxers came out on fire scoring two runs on three hits. The Pioneers couldn't get a runner on in the bottom of the ninth ending the game in a 1-3 loss.
Hollenbeck (5-9) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching all nine innings giving up three runs on seven hits, while walking six and striking out four. Sara Aasness (6-4) takes the win for the Boxers pitching nine innings giving up one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out four.
The Pioneers head back to Forest Grove to play the Boxers in a make up double-header from Saturday on Monday March 31 beginning at 5 p.m.
