Softball Falls to George Fox 6-2

NEWBERG, Ore- The Lewis & Clark Softball team lost a tough one to George Fox today 6-2. In control for most of the game, it slipped out of their hands in the sixth inning. The loss brings the Pioneers to 5-7 overall, and 2-5 in the Northwest Conference. The Bruins move to 10-2 overall with a 4-2 record in the Northwest Conference.

The Pioneers set the tone early scoring their first run in the first inning. Tiana Rosario hit an infield single to reach first base and was hit to second on a single by Hannah Dal Pra. A wild pitch was thrown advancing Rosario to third, and picked up by the catcher who made an overthrow to third scoring Rosario and advancing Dal Pra to second. Two quick groundouts to second ended the first with the Pioneers up 1-0.

With three scoreless innings by the Bruins, Dal Pra stepped to the plate in the top of the fourth crushing a solo homerun to center to take the Pioneers lead to two.

The Bruins came alive in the sixth with Kayla Anderson reaching on an error to begin the inning. A double followed by Amanda Woods put runners on second and third. Two outs, two runs, and the bases loaded, Felicia Chavez hit a grand slam to right field making the score 6-2 and putting it out of reach for the Pioneers.

Dal Pra and Rosario each finished with two hits a piece for the Pioneers.

Madison Hollenbeck (4-4) pitched six innings for the Pioneers facing twenty-nine batters, giving up six runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out three. Erin Hento (5-1) takes the win for the Bruins pitching seven innings to twenty-seven batters, giving up two runs on five hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Pioneers continue Northwest Conference action Saturday March 15 at Huston Stadium for a double header against Pacific Lutheran beginning at noon.
